Beni Gold Hotel…exceptional hospitality

A couple of months back, in a bid to avoid the usual afternoon traffic on Victoria Island; my taxi driver passed through Adeleke Adedoyin Street off Kofo Abayomi.  I saw the Hotel’s sign post and noted the ample parking space but soon got distracted by other thoughts.

I only remembered this encounter when I pulled up to the gates for my latest review. The security men were not the usual self important breed that plague Nigerian establishments but instead were very polite and helpful in showing me to the reception.

Prior to my visit, I had tried to do a little online research on the meaning of the word Beni – turns out in French it could be translated to man/men if joined with another word. In Italian it means assets, estate, goods or property. The General Manager, Mr. Ben Onaji told me the mindset of staff at the hotel is that the guests are worth more than gold and they are treated as such.

I think it’s noteworthy to mention the fact that none of the guests departing or arriving while I was there wore a frown. Every single person seemed to be pleased about something. Why wouldn’t they be? After a pleasant night’s rest, staying at this conveniently located hotel which opened for business in 2014, it’s got all the standard trimmings and more like Wi-Fi, complimentary newspapers, laundry, business facilities, 3 bars, a 4 star restaurant, a swimming pool, spa, gym, 140 rooms in 5 different categories, 3 conference halls perfect for banquets, team bonding retreats, seminars and receptions.

Long stay guests can stay in any of the rooms with a kitchenette and request a microwave oven for the duration of their stay. The Silverbird Cinemas are a short drive away as are several restaurants, banks, shopping centers, clubs and the Lagos Motor Boat Club.

I got the grand tour and saw the Classic Single, Standard, Royal Deluxe and Crown Deluxe rooms each one exquisitely furnished and as inviting as the next. Speaking of inviting, by the end of my tour the lunch buffet was set. I had Pounded Yam and Edikanikong only because that’s what I craved but the menu with the comparatively priced meals boasted dishes like Prawns Thermidor, Pasta Pomodoro, Cajun Jambalaya, and Fillet of Sole Bonne Femme. Coincidentally, Happy Hour kicks off from January 15th 2016 and run from 5pm-7pm Mondays through Saturdays. They must have a good mixologist on the pay roll, considering how many rare cocktails they had on the menu.

Most times I can’t bring myself to stay at a good hotel because of its proximity to the comforts of my own home. And yet in the case of Beni Gold Hotel I have already decided to make an exception.
