For me and a lot of other travelers, part of what makes a great hotel stay isn’t just the fancy facilities but the disposition of the people who were hired to operate them. Unless you are an ogre, you will always prefer the smiling receptionist, waiter, Chef and housekeeper etc. any day.
De Lawrence court is tucked away in a crescent just off the ever busy and noisy Allen Avenue, luckily for guests the noise is far away. The boutique hotel was opened for business November 15th 2014 with three room categories standard, deluxe, suites. A word of advice if you are plus sized like me, chip in a little extra for the Suites so you can enjoy the extra space, bigger beds and the steam boxes in the slightly larger bathrooms. There are 26 rooms in total, Wi-Fi, a multipurpose hall that’s was under construction at the time I wrote this piece and parking space for about 10 vehicles. The restaurant/bar is small but each room has a reading desk so you can order room service. The reception/waiting room is also small but since each room has a well stocked mini-bar you can just help yourself.
In spite of the size the staff is polite and eager to please, so you tend forgive any shortcomings. If you are lucky you could meet the GM – Bisoye who calls herself the “Owner’s Rep”. She showed me around and answered all my questions. They have a Chef who does a very decent grilled chicken that I can attest to and Bisoye told me the house specialty is called “De Lawrence Special” – well spiced Catfish served with yam or unripe plantain. They offer a selection of African and continental dishes plus different choices of wines and beers.
I recommend it to the transient traveler on a budget preferably the type who travels alone or with another adult; children can become restless in such confined spaces. De Lawrence Court is about 8 minutes away from the local airport and 15 minutes from the International Airport in mild traffic.
