Elion House…exactly as advertised

When I write as the Travel Man I try never to embellish an experience and relate my impressions as precisely and truthfully as possible. I usually take little notes for later. When my friend and I drove through the twin gates of Elion House I forgot all about my notes. I remember thinking “How come I’ve never been here before today?” and I saw the sentiment echoed in my friend’s face.

I felt that for a hotel that was tucked away in a residential estate it was quite roomy and this was confirmed during my chat with the general manager Tony. He proudly informed me that they had 50 rooms in total. Not only that they had a spa and a masseuse myself I couldn’t resist looking in.

If you’ve ever been to a spa you’ll realize the rates are quite reasonable for what you would be getting. An entire hour for a full body massage costs N7, 000.00 plus steam bath takes it to N9, 000. Pure heaven! They even have reflexology massages (I don’t know how to do those) but when you visit Elion House I strongly recommend getting one.

And maybe when you are done hop into that glorious pool, I am a terrible swimmer but when it’s good I like to laze in there for a couple of hours. Eventually hunger beckoned and it was off to the Bistro; the restaurant with such class I was worried that I was underdressed in my t-shirt and jeans but it was fine. The menu boasted Continental, National, Italian, African and Oriental dishes, I had pasta and my less adventurous companion had fried rice.  Needless to say the chef didn’t disappoint.

We retired to the bar for cocktails where we met some other guests like the Anyaegbunams; a polite middle aged couple from Abuja and the rather quiet doctor from Port Harcourt, smoking a cigar. They were regulars and remarked that they loved the Dolphin Extension location of the Elion House because it afforded them the privacy and quiet of home when they were done with the day’s meetings.  They thought it was interesting that I was spending just one night and were even more baffled when I told them I lived in Lagos.

I told them about my blog, hotel reviews and how I wanted people to know how easy it was to get away just for a bit to recharge their batteries. With any luck it will become “a way of life” just like the Elion House pay off. Night quickly turned to day and we enjoyed the breakfast buffet after a brief visit to the gym (I was the one who made it brief) and one more dip in the pool and we reluctantly checked out just a before noon.
