Established in 2003 Bogobiri House Ikoyi is situated at 9, Maitama Sule Street off Awolowo Road, South-West Ikoyi. It is in close proximity to several restaurants, banks, filling stations and the Falomo Bridge. A first time visitor to this unconventional hotel will love the Afrocentric décor and art pieces on every single wall and hallway.
There are 10 rooms plus a pair of 2 bedroom flats for long term guests. Each room has a bohemian theme that makes guest feel like they are immersed in the art themselves. There is a bed with carved or decorated bed posts, flat screen TV with cable channels, writing desk, air conditioner, armchairs, mini fridge and tea/coffee making set. Bogobiri House’s bathrooms are spacious and one in particular is decorated with seashells and a mural of palm trees.
Guests of this boutique hotel in Ikoyi have access to the free 24 hour Wi-Fi network, laundry services, a library of diverse books and daily newspapers in the main lounge, the serviced work space for the traveling business man, cocktails at the bar and the rich African cuisine on the restaurant’s menu. The art on the walls are originals by African artists and can be purchased by interested guests.
The street is rather narrow and there is very little parking space but this doesn’t deter the frequently returning guests who have come to view Bogobiri House and its staff as part of the family. The beautiful thing about this hotel is not only guests enjoy this experience, there’s an art gallery and mini market where you can purchase souvenirs on the premises. An exceptionally good house band performs on certain nights of the week. Every last Tuesday from 7 – 10pm is Taruwa a popular entertainment gathering in Lagos, every Wednesday is Jazz night, every Thursday from 7 -11pm is Open Mic for spoken word artists and musicians. Happy Hour is on Friday, Saturdays are Reggae night and every last Friday from 7 – 10pm is Allianz Francais.
Despite the coming and going, the atmosphere is mostly a serene one, management may arrange for a taxi service on request and the establishment is super secure. I highly recommend the Bogobiri House for both casual and business travelers.
