Sun Heaven Hotels & Resort Lekki – “state of the art hospitality”

I am usually not lost for words but this time it is a good thing. A week ago I visited the Sun Heaven Hotels & Resort in Victoria Island. It was a day trip for brunch and a quick look around so I was in and out in less than three hours. The hotel staff made quite the impression on me, something I didn’t think could be replicated until the Group General Manager Michael asked me to go see the branch in Lekki.

So on a Monday night after work I decided to treat myself and checked into the Sun Heaven Hotels & Resort in Lekki. It was pretty easy to locate because it is situated on Block 9, Plot 8 Admiralty Road off the popular Admiralty Way in Lekki Phase 1. As I pulled into the spacious parking lot I couldn’t help but think ‘This is no annex.’ That’s because it is not. This was another 4 star hotel under the same exceptional management.

There are a total of 30 rooms split into 4 categories – Serene, Deluxe, Deluxe Balcony and Deluxe Executive. I was shown to one of the Deluxe Executive rooms which had a safety deposit box, large comfortable bed, mini fridge, two desk lamps, cable channels on a flat screen TV, 24 hour Wi-Fi access and super spacious bathroom which had constant hot water. A quick inspection of some empty rooms showed similar levels of comfort. The halls are decorated with magnificent portraits of the Lagos skyline at night. There are also several CCTV cameras around the already high walled premises plus electrified barb wire and uniformed security guards; the hotel is as secure as they come.

I headed down to have a quick chat with the Operations Manager of this branch Mr. Ibrahim Zulu. The man was pleasant and patient and he told me they opened for business in February 2016. He told me that what set Sun Heaven Hotels & Resort apart from other hotels was the state of the art hospitality. Then a concierge showed me around the facilities which include an outdoor swimming pool, restaurant and bar (the menu was comprehensive with assorted drinks, cocktails and cuisine from around the globe), 2 meeting halls each with a maximum seating for 40 persons, a well-equipped gym and the spa that offered different sorts massages and facial treatments all at incredibly affordable prices.

I invited two of my older brothers over for a late night drink and ordered a dinner of Pounded Yam and Egusi soup with chicken. Dinner arrived promptly and then I dressed for a quick workout after which I received my siblings. They both admired my room and its plush décor before we went out for drinks at one of the many bars on Admiralty Road. I returned to the hotel at about 1.30am and tried to log on to the internet with no luck. The next day I woke up fully refreshed and only mildly ticked off I had not been able to work online that night. I called the front desk and someone from the IT department came up to sort me out. I’ll say this, when I finally accessed the internet it was superfast and I did as much work as I could before ordering breakfast, taking another hot shower and checking out.

While returning my key I went to see Mr. Zulu to give him my opinion of my night at his hotel. Save for the mild irritation of not having Wi-Fi through the night I was all praises for his staff and services. He then told me the fault lay with their ISP. The same ones we recently stopped using at work, I understood completely how that company periodically fails to keep its promises. I thanked him for a pleasant and took my leave.

I highly recommend the Sun Heaven Hotels and Resort in Lekki and Victoria Island to the seasoned traveler with class who appreciates comfort and pampering.
