Taking in the Mente De Moda experience

On Sunday July 10th 2016, I finally made it to this unique shopping experience that my friends had invited me to month after month. Venue was Bics Garden Lekki Phase 1 by the water and the advertised time was 12pm, I drove up sometime after 2pm (in an effort to avoid the hoard of believers leaving church on the expressway). Turns out things were still popping off; lots of cars parked out front, the fair was well attended, zero entry fees, people wandering about and examining the stands and tables all over the grounds, manned by different Avant garde designers, artists, grill masters, caterers and mixologists.

In the background over the mighty speakers I heard a DJ mixing some trap music with UK grime and the latest Naija tunes.  I chose to wear a light Ankara native and donned an Aso Oke cap to give the outfit some pizazz. There were loads of fashionable Lagosians in attendance too.  Summer was officially here so lots of shorts and tank tops, big hair, sunglasses and strappy sandals.

My friend was clearly tired from cooking all through the night but the effort was much appreciated and profitable. Yup! Mo’s Jollof cleaned out with the firewood prepared Jollof with a choice of asun, peppered chicken or beef. I took lots of photos and sampled cocktails from a drink vendor called SV Lunchbox. Next time I’ve got to grab some palm wine from the Tiki Bar; that was another crowd favorite.

It was all over much too soon for yours truly as it all got dark by 7.30pm and the vendors packed up. It felt like a UK farmer’s market and it’s a great way to network. Mente De Moda definitely has a new convert in the Travel Man and besides I must have some more of Mo’s Jollof. I suggest you take the time to come see for yourself. Keep an eye on the blog I’ll let you know when next one goes down.
