Tivoli Garden – a taste of total hospitality

My first experience at this lavish boutique hotel in Ikoyi was not as the Travel Man but as Triple X (rapper and spoken word poet). The event was the monthly edition of Freedom Hall – a celebration of creativity on the microphone. As always it was hosted by my friend Tope Sadiq and it was he who informed me that the usual venue had been changed. And so after work I found my way to the Tivoli Garden hotel situated in an upscale neighborhood off the popular Awolowo Road, just two minutes away from the Ikoyi Golf Course and five minutes away from the Muson Center. I was taken to the rear of the hotel where one gets a stunning view of the Lagos Lagoon waterfront and the stage with its state of the art sound system.

I was impressed by the aesthetics and looked forward to the day I would eventually review the hotel as the Travel Man. That day came soon enough and it was on this third visitation I discovered that Tivoli Gardens just opened its doors in the year 2016.  In fact the formal launch had yet to happen (I quickly secured an invite) and the 14 lavishly appointed rooms were already in full use. Divided into Classic King, Deluxe Suite and Executive Suite categories; each room boasts of a wonderful view of the Ikoyi skyline and the waterfront. The rooms come with a safety deposit box, writing desk, flat screen television with cable network access, daily newspaper and the bathrooms without exception have hair dryers.

The ambience is so good one couple had booked a suite for an entire weekend to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The hotel spared nothing to make the couple’s experience a memorable one; cue the flower petals and expensive bottle of wine. Nice!

All guests have access to the free round the clock Wi-Fi, the small but well equipped gym, swimming pool, designated smoking areas (all rooms are non-smoking), ample on-site parking and uniformed security. The multipurpose hall is on the first floor and depending on the seating arrangements can hold up 150 people plus it has a glorious view of the waterfront.

The bar is well stocked leads to an elegant and spacious restaurant which is connected to the lounge. The menu is still evolving but regardless there are many tasty offerings such as: Beat the Traffic – for just N2, 500 Monday to Friday from 5pm till late you get a canned alcoholic beverage and a platter of ‘small chops’, the Happy Hour Lunch Menu also runs Monday to Friday from 12noon – 4pm and the most costly item the Peppered Snail with chips and coleslaw valued at N2, 000. Every Thursday is ‘Ladies Night Out’ with Karaoke and free cocktails for the first 10 ladies. Fridays are doubly special because of the TGIF Barbecue which starts off at 5pm and costs N5, 000 a head. And Friday’s entertainment which consists of Lady DJ Moore and the vocals of Project Fame Season 8’s Oluchi. Last but certainly not least is the Sunday Buffet which costs N5, 000 for adults and N2, 500 for children it runs from 12noon to 4pm.

Tivoli Garden is perfect for events of all kinds and it has the space and views to prove it. It is also a lovely getaway when you just wish to reconnect with loved ones without having to leave the city.
